A coastal economy
Akwa Ibom meets the Atlantic. Fisheries, aquaculture, marine plastics and other coastal enterprises need prototypes, skills and patient testing, not only slide decks.
About the hub
Hosted by the University of Uyo, the Green and Blue Economy UniPod gives learners and problem-solvers rooms, tools and a route from an idea to a working outcome.
UniPod is short for University Innovation Pod. Nigeria’s national network places specialised pods in public universities, each aligned to a part of the economy that matters in that place. At the University of Uyo, the focus is the green and blue economy: production that respects land and water, and enterprises that can grow from them.
The building brings fabrication, electronics, digital workstations and teaching rooms together. Students, researchers, founders and industry partners can enquire about training, facility access and joint projects. Access is arranged with the hub team. An enquiry is not a booking.
“Locating a UniPod in Uyo is a core part of a larger vision to deepen this ecosystem, while unlocking new opportunities for sustainable development.”
Why this focus
Akwa Ibom meets the Atlantic. Fisheries, aquaculture, marine plastics and other coastal enterprises need prototypes, skills and patient testing, not only slide decks.
Farms, processing, energy and circular products are part of the same story. The pod is a workshop for ideas that have to work outside the university gate.
Akwa Ibom Tech Week and the wider digital community give the pod neighbours. The university gives it students, laboratories and a public mandate.
Public record
These are published milestones. They are not a claim that every room is open every day.
UNDP invited firms to design, repurpose and furnish a UniPod at the University of Uyo.
UNDP’s Resident Representative set out the case: innovation, jobs and Akwa Ibom’s place in a national sustainable-development agenda.
The Federal Government, TETFund and UNDP listed the University of Uyo as the Green and Blue Economy UniPod in the first national cohort.
